It's so rad to see someone making a game inspired by Spore! I was curious, do you plan to add scaling of "bones" for creature creation like spore had? Specifically modifying the spine shape and sections on specific parts (like upper leg vs lower or sections on antennae).
Great work with this! Can't wait to see what you do going forward!
Yes I have a big species editor overhaul planned which includes procedural spine and limb drawing + scaling. I'd like to do part morphing as well, but have not had time to do enough prototyping to make any promises yet about that feature.
I've recently added the first pass of tutorial content, but more will be coming. :) Are you receiving quest prompts once you've started the game as your species?
The concepts of the game like befriending, mating, breeding (when do I get to breed again? Do I only get to breed each mate once? What does breeding season actually do?), requests (what is the point of actually doing them besides roleplaying being nice to your tribe?), temperature and sleep (couldn't notice any effects from temperature and being tired) are pretty vague and could be more well explained.
Making a big creature will have it fill out most of the screen, which is very obnoxious and prevents you from watching your creature's beautiful animations. Adjusting the zoom depending on creature size and/or letting you zoom out farther would help a lot. I also made my creature quite tall with long neck and long legs if that matters.
Pathfinding can be kinda broke sometimes. I couldn't fulfill the request of bringing my offspring a rock because his pathfinding broke. Could be another large creature exclusive problem.
Finding friends and mates again is very difficult, and losing your nest is frustrating. A map with friends, mates, accepted quests and nests marked would be nice.
Combat is definitively... something. Targeting the right enemy without accidentally hitting your friends was a way bigger challenge than anything the enemies ever threw at me. I think I only ever took any damage once or twice.
Brooding to speed up your egg would be a fun feature.
My main gripe with this demo is that it runs very poorly on my PC, but I guess that is a pre-early access problem and I respect that it is hard and takes time to make a game well optimized. I couldn't get very far because my game crashed twice.
If anyone else reads this and has performance issues, I would suggest changing "borderless windowed" to "full screen". It helps a lot.
On a positive note, the game feels pretty satisfying to play. Big creatures feel very powerful, but hard to maintain and need lots of food as a balance. Forming a family is fun. My creature is adorable.
Thanks so much for playing the game and for your thorough feedback, hearing these kinds of issues / frustrations is extremely helpful. :D I'm glad you enjoyed the game and concept even with any early access struggles you encountered.
Looks like it could be a really fun game! But I was playing on an Xbox controller and the look sensitivity was much too fast, making it unplayable. Definitely would recommend a look sensitivity option (I browsed the settings menus to try find it but didn't have any luck, so if it does exist, maybe make it easier to find?).
Thank you for sharing :) I don't know much about Intel Iris cards, but after doing some benchmark comparisons, I'd say this is likely the cause. There's a lot going on graphically.
Hi there! I'm very happy to hear Adapt has a fan! I'm hoping to get a new update out with some tutorial and questing basics in early Feb. Climbing won't be released for a while, but is absolutely planned. There's no set date yet, but I'll be working on it after the game is released into early access.
camera is so bad I couldn't play it. I died once after having my camera locked I wasn't able to eat. Also, never clear what was making me lose health. All I did in the game was walk around and eat food but I was still losing health
While they will share some logic, hands will likely be part of a separate update set. I'll see where it would fit on the roadmap; but hands are definitely planned.
the recent update has made things less finnicky, though i do wish the other creatures fought each other. and that carnivores actively searched for their next meal and other in-depth stuff, it's great. some things i'm happy about:
nectivores are less broken.
the UI is less broken, and less cluttered.
It's easier to understand what's happening.
and that this game exists.
doing great, try not to overwork yourself (take a breather when you can, take breaks from the screen, yada yada.) and have a great week end!
i just dont have a mouse so i cant really eat, but i would appreciate if it was possible to change the controls, like for example, if i change the mouse for E like Eat, i dont think it's possible though, but maybe you could try.
I will be adding support for changing the keybindings in the future. The game also has controller support as an alternative in the meantime if you have one. :)
I do have a controller, but the eat button doesn't work sometimes, I keep pressing the A aggressively to eat or I just hold it, but even if I hold it, it wont work, thank god this happens sometimes and not always though. if you can fix this i will be forever grateful because this game is great! :D
The new update should solve the issue causing your eat button to not always work correctly. :) No update yet on Rebinding controls, but it is on my to-do list.
Does it not have wings yet or is there something I'm missing (because I saw air speed in the speed thingy but I couldn't find anything that actually gave you air speed)
this game was incredibly laggy and i couldn't buy any of the extra limbs horns etc, and i had all the graphics settings on low, i am very disapointed i really was looking forward to this
The game is alright its like spore creature stage, but the optimalization is nuts. dosent exist. My pc has 4 gb of ram and 2 CPU with 1,5 Ghz.
And no person on earth will tell me that my pc with 4 Gb of ram 2 Cpu and a pretty good graphics card cant run a game with minimum 2 gb ram.
Cult of the lamb and Thrive have bigger requirements and they run stable 60 fps. if your realising a demo for your game for low end pc then make it atleast playble.
I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with lag. Have you tried reducing your video settings? Lowering the Grass Density, Draw Distance, Shadows, and Water Quality settings can all have major impact on performance.
Additionally, Adapt is not optimized for on-board GPUs. So you will likely see graphics latency if you're using a laptop with and Intel onboard or other similar GPU.
Thanks for your feedback, and I'll be sure to double check the game's min system requirements to make sure they are accurate.
a great game, good customization, and fun to mess around with. but the controls appear to not want to work for me, especially the mouse controls, and sometimes I get stuck locked on to another creature. also a little laggy.
Thanks for your feedback. I'm working on some fixes now for a few controls that can get stuck as you mentioned. As for lag, make sure to check your graphics settings if you're on a laptop / non-gaming machine. Shadows, draw distance, grass, and water quality can all be a bit much for less fancy graphics cards.
yeah, tried some of the graphics options, it at least runs on my crappy old pc.
might as well put some form of ideas here as well.
spitting venom: blinds creatures, spitting cobras spit their venom as a self defense mechanism and aim at the eyes, permanently blinding if it actually hits the eyes.
though this might be far ahead of an idea. wing shapes effecting flight: it would be interesting to have to edit the shape of the wings for an efficient flying creature.
bioluminescence: while this could be used for other things, maybe it could work as a lure, or even a built-in flashlight.
fur/scales: while fur would allow better insulation and the ability to look bigger, scales would increase over all defense and durability.
ectothermy and endothermy: ectotherms have a slower metabolism and overheat less easily, while endotherms are better at surviving in cold areas.
these are just ideas, but hey, would be cool to see some of them.
take it easy, don't over-work yourself, and try not to put out release dates and rush yourself super early!
Thanks for your thoughts. It's awesome to see you're excited for the game, even if you're having some optimization issues. I hope you'll be happy I'm working on some additions that are very closely in-line with some of your ideas. :D
game crashed when I fought another creature, love the concept but the controls to move around when placing a nest are also pretty wacky. Can't wait to see the progress though.

I try giving my babies food and they don't eat, also when an animal is following me they don't run only walk

You rock, Paul! Keep making rad things!
Hey Paul, will there ever be a version for Mac? Thanks
Sadly I don't have any plans to port to Mac at this time.
will there be a tutorial in this game
I've recently added the first pass of tutorial content, but more will be coming. :)
Are you receiving quest prompts once you've started the game as your species?
Press tab and then select the quest tab.
It provides a basic tutorial.
The concepts of the game like befriending, mating, breeding (when do I get to breed again? Do I only get to breed each mate once? I'm glad you enjoyed the game and concept even with any early access struggles you encountered.
I hope I could helpmaking the game the best it could be.
Wow! looks like a more mature and focused version of spore! Will download and give it a try. If you need peaceful ambient music let me know!
Lot of potential! I love this kind of projects
Looks like a fun game to explore!
This is great feedback, thank you. I do plan to add a look sensitivity control for both gamepad and MKB. :)
I think I mated with a man cos didn't get no babies
Will there be a option to lay your eggs inside of animals like wasps can?
Basically what parasite stuff might we get.
Currently this isn't planned; but it's a very interesting idea.
Do you have to download both the prologue and the generator zips??
No, sorry for the confusion.
The World Generator is only for bug-testing a GPU issue some users with Intel HD / UHD cards are experiencing.
cool but olaggy
I've love to know what kind of machine (CPU, GPU, total RAM) you're running the game on.
I have the 11th Gen Intel r coretm i5-1135g7 processor 12g ram and intelr irisr xe graphics card
Thank you for sharing :)
I don't know much about Intel Iris cards, but after doing some benchmark comparisons, I'd say this is likely the cause. There's a lot going on graphically.
Anytime and oh okay that makes sense
Instant wishlist, keep up the great work!
Yay! I'm glad you're enjoying the game :D
Hi Paul,
Comments from my son Zachary (13yrs):
"Dear Paul,
I really like your game on Steam.
I have two questions:
- when is the next update coming out?
- when is a climbing feature going to be added?
Thanks Zac."
Cheers -Brian
Hi there!
I'm very happy to hear Adapt has a fan!
I'm hoping to get a new update out with some tutorial and questing basics in early Feb.
Climbing won't be released for a while, but is absolutely planned. There's no set date yet, but I'll be working on it after the game is released into early access.
when will this/will this become a browser game? Ive been looking for a game like this or Spore for YEARS!
Adapt requires an install to play, browsers simply can't support the game's complexity. May I ask why you asked about browsers specifically?
I only have a chromebook, my brother owns a desktop but he wont let me do anything on it even though i bought games for him to play with me.
How do you mate? I can't figure it out, all I can get to is courting, not really sure about the progressing of the species
Once you've courted an animal, you'll be given the option to mate. I've releasing another update today which further simplifies this process. :)
My major questionis, when will flight come out? And multiplayer.
see what i did there? Questionis?
Flight has no date yet, but Is very much coming. Sadly Adapt wont support multiplayer, as the scope was just too large as a single developer.
camera is so bad I couldn't play it. I died once after having my camera locked I wasn't able to eat. Also, never clear what was making me lose health. All I did in the game was walk around and eat food but I was still losing health
I've published a number of camera improvements. I'd love to hear your feedback if you get a chance to play again.
question- would hands be bundled with wings/flight? as i didnt see it on the road-map-.
While they will share some logic, hands will likely be part of a separate update set. I'll see where it would fit on the roadmap; but hands are definitely planned.
is this accessible on mobile?
Sorry, but Adapt is too large for mobile.
add fully aquatic life Paul plz

You're correct, Wing and hand parts on not in-game yet. :)
Dang it
Is there anything to do other than eating flowers and genociding other species.
How do I lay an egg?
I'd recommend coming to the Discord community. :) https://discord.gg/AWuC5W5mKp
this game was incredibly laggy and i couldn't buy any of the extra limbs horns etc, and i had all the graphics settings on low, i am very disapointed i really was looking forward to this
Would you be willing to share your system specs? I'm always looking for ways to further optimize.
doing great, though it appears some mutations have no attributes yet. fur and other new body mutations for example.
and nectivores seem a little broken since the babies refuse to eat. other than that, it can run better on my bad pc and I'm happy about it.
I'm glad to see what's coming up next update!

Overall - 4.5 Star game
Problem is only with tutorial and Controls
Thanks for your feedback! And thanks for playing. :D

bug: giant nest that dwarf godzilla
Haha. Thanks for reporting this!
here are some cool ideas I have:
stomp: only available if you have four legs and it deals damage based on your size
arms: lets you snatch stuff
herds: massive groups of ai animals or your species ranging from 10 animals to 100
game crashed when I fought another creature, love the concept but the controls to move around when placing a nest are also pretty wacky. Can't wait to see the progress though.
Thanks for your feedback!
BUG: complete darkness
wait its underground
question:
will there be flying or full aquatics?
the art shows a shawdow on the ground and a fishy boi in the sea
Yes, both flight and Aquatic eggs / vivipary are planned
If you're interested, you can check out the Adapt Roadmap :)
thank you sir! I got the demo on steam to check it out and was intrested in the project, I hope I will have enough money to purchase it!
also how big can an animal be, like the size of the big trees?
At the moment, the largest animals are approximately the size of the more medium size trees, but not as large as very tallest trees
ok
what version is more developed itch or steam
also is there full aqua eggs and live birth in demo?
Reproduction in the demo is restricted to terrestrial nests.
Its Gonna be great when i saw blitz did it
:D
Thank you thank you thank you for going with the good part of spore. <3
How do I help, this is a dream game honestly and I'd like to help it along anyway I can.
Just spread the word :) the biggest push right now is for visibility
if the full game comes out and i dont have enough money to buy it i will have the zip file for the demo
Will there be any potential detail options/extra coloring abilities?
Possibly. There are no confirmed plans at the moment, but I would like to do some prototyping down the line for more coloring options
like shapeshifting?
Is Adapt going to be available on other platforms or is Steam it?
Initially through Steam. but I'm exploring other PC platforms, as well as Switch porting.
Well the game looks fun but I never buy from Steam. I but from GOG, Itch.io and Humble Bundle when there is no DRM attached. Good luck with sales.
Adapt will also be available on Itch again. Orders are only disabled temporarily.
